Friendship Day (1st Sunday in August)

Updated: Sep 14, 2022

I am really behind the times on all the days that are celebrated in the world today. I just found out there was a day to celebrate friendship. I feel like I am living under a rock. So, the topic of today's post is Friendship Day. The definition according to Wikipedia states Friendship Day (also known as International Friendship Day or Friend's Day) is a day in several countries for celebrating friendship. . I sometimes wonder why we must have a specific day to celebrate certain things. I guess it could be a way to make sure that we let the people we love know how much we love them. According to National Day, National Friendship Day was originally a marketing strategy for Hallmark Cards in the 1930s. Founder Joyce Hall designated the day would take place on August 2 and decided it would be a day to celebrate the people closest to you — and send them a card or two in the process. It soon became a bigger deal than originally planned when the 1935 U.S. Congress pronounced the first Sunday of August as National Friendship Day.

Considering that this day has been around since before I was born, I would have to say the marketing hasn’t been so great. I haven’t always been a hermit. I was young once and I have never celebrated this day with my friends. If I hadn’t been trolling the internet trying to come up with ideas for new posts, I probably never would have even known this day existed. So, I owe a huge thank you to The Content Panel for the topic idea. If anyone reading this also has a blog, I will link the site down below with all the other sources I used for this post. I have no clue what else to do with this post so the next 2 paragraphs will be dedications to my 2 best friends.

Aria since I know you read this blog; I’ll start with you. You are one of the best friends a girl could ask for. You always have my back with anything I could ever need. You are a listening ear no matter the time of the day or night. You always tell me the truth even when I don’t want to hear it. You inspire me so much with everything you have gone through and overcome in your life. You are one of the greatest moms I have ever met. Every choice you make is all about the well-being of your children.

GiGi, I love you more than words can express. You are a second mother to my children. I know no matter what I go through you will always be one call away. We have had our ups and downs but thank you for never giving up on me. Thank you for the kindness and forgiveness you have shown me. You inspire me to be the best version of myself that I can be. I love how you live your life on your terms. All the strength I have gained over these last 4 years is because of you standing beside me and showing me what strength looks like.

My 2 best friends in the world I could not do this thing called life without you both. You accept my flaws and all. The value you both add to my life is priceless. I am glad that I get to call you both my friends. I’m sorry I didn’t know Friendship Day was Sunday, but I don’t need a specific day to tell you both that I love you and I greatly appreciate you both being in my life. You both have shown me what true friendship is. I hope that as much as you both give to me, I give you back the same in return.

It doesn’t take a specific day to show someone that you love them. As my mom would say you should give people their roses while they are living. With that being said I dedicate this post to my 2 best friends Aria and GiGi. I wish you both all the best things this world has to offer. I can’t wait to see what else is in store for us in the future.

Unapologetically,

K
