Sometimes I wish I would go to sleep when I say I'm going to. It is so sad to see the way the world is going sometimes. As per usual I'm scrolling on TikTok and I get sucked into the vortex of videos on a minor child. I won't say her name because she is an innocent 3-year-old child. I won't deep dive into everything I was reading in seeing but I couldn't sit idly by and not speak on the situation. I am a mother as well and do make content with and about my children. After reading through the comment that grown adults were saying about that child I am disgusted. I understand the feeling of wanting to be famous but not at the expense of the safety of my children.
I'm not here to judge this mother but as a mother myself, I don't understand how she continues to post her child after reading the comments. I know I don't have a huge following yet and the comments can be a lot to read when your page has as many comments as hers does. But you don't have to read down very far before you see something that turns your stomach. I don't know her daily life with her daughter and I'd like to assume that she loves her daughter more than anything in this world so why then does she continue making videos and putting them on the internet? This post is a lot to write because I've had some trauma in my past as a child and to see those comments I am speechless. I like TikTok just as much as the next person but why does it even have the option to bookmark or save videos of children? I know when I post videos of my daughter on youtube it asks if the videos are for children. I always choose yes on her videos because one factor is no comments.
My 4-year-old has started making her videos because she sees me making videos so I let her but I don't tell her what to do or direct her videos in any way. Most of the time I don't even realize she made a video until later when I see it on her Ipad. But you can tell this mom is 100% the person who is coming up with the ideas for the videos. She doesn't block the commenters or anything but why isn't TikTok doing something as well? Don't they have someone moderating comments because those accounts need to be banned? At no point should an adult be making provocative, suggestive, flirty comments about a child. I know it would seem slightly unfair to the mom but maybe her account should be taken down as well. If she isn't going to do the bare minimum to protect her child from online predators then someone should.
If you don't agree with my opinion that is fine but I will not sit idly by when I see a child being targeted and not say something. if the people who are supposed to protect a child don't then we have a duty to protect them. That's just my 2 cents on that situation.
Unapologetically,
K
